I lost my Yakima keys. Is there any way to get a spare key?
|
ORS Racks Direct has a page on our web site (
Yakima Keys (1 Pair) Spare Part / Replacement Part ) where customers can buy spare / replacement and extra Yakima keys that match their current Yakima locks and/or keys. All the customer needs to do is provide us with their Yakima lock cores number code (This number code can be found on the SKS (Same Key System) Yakima lock cores and/or keys the customer has currently.)
You can also get a Yakima Control Key (Universal Master Key) if you are missing this key, which is necessary for allowing for the removal and insertion of all Yakima SKS lock cores.

I need to get an extra Yakima lock core to add to my current Yakima locks and would like it to be coded with the same number as the rest of my locks so I can use the same keys I already have with the new Yakima lock core?
|
No problem. You can visit to our web site here -
Yakima SKS Lock Core Single - 8007801 Spare Part / Replacement Part )that offers a replacement or spare Yakima SKS lock core. On that page their is a box available for the customer to provide us with the number code of their current Yakima locks (This number code can be found on the SKS (Same Key System) Yakima lock cores and/or keys the customer has currently.) This is also where you'll want to go if you have to replace a broken lock etc.

My Yakima key has broken off inside the lock core. I can't remove broken piece of key in the lock, any suggestions for removing piece of key stuck inside the lock?
|
A great slice of wisdom that has been floating around the car rack world for some time is to straighten out a paper clip and insert in the top part of the key slot on the lock. Then try and slowly rake the broken key piece out. Once a tiny bit of the key is showing you can grasp it with a needle nose pliers and remove it. If that fails you can always call a locksmith to do their magic.

I have a Yakima Rack and the locks on them were installed several years ago and they are now rusted out. The Yakima keys for them will not fit into them and work. Any suggestions on how I can remove the locks so I can replace them with new ones?
|
The solution that works the best is to apply powdered graphite or some type of penetrating oil. This often times will remove any rust build up inside the lock core. Once you get the lock unlocked, go ahead and use the Yakima Control key (universal master install key) that originally came with the locks and remove the lock cores.

Can I remove my current Yakima SKS locks on my old Yakima rack and install them in the new rack I am getting? Or do I have to buy an entirely new pack of Yakima SKS locks?
|
The Yakima SKS locks can be removed from the old Yakima rack and installed in the new Yakima rack. No ned to buy a new pack of Yakima locks. To remove the lock cores from the rack just use the gold Yakima Control key (also known as a universal master key or install key) , which was included with the original Yakima locks you purchased. (if you lost the Yakima Control Key you can get a new one here -
Yakima SKS Control Key (master key) - 8007835 Spare Part / Replacement Part ). Insert the gold Control Key into the key slot each unlocked lock core. Turn the key to the 2:00 position. This will extract your lock core from its housing. You then use the gold Control key to insert the lock into your new rack as well.

I'm interesting in buying a couple of Yakima Rack gear carriers but I have a Thule Rack roof rack system with the square Thule load bars. Do Yakima gear carriers work on Thule square load bars?
|
Yakima Racks includes the Yakima Universal SnapArounds bar attachment hardware with virtually all of its roof mount gear carriers. The Yakima Universal SnapArounds allow the gear carrier to mount directly to Yakima round crossbars and Thule square load bars. Yakima Racks is always coming out with new gear carriers and updating current carriers so they are compatible with other roof rack crossbars besides the round Yakima bars. We have a chart that we try and keep updated and includes all Yakima roof mount gear carriers and their compatibility with the different types of Thule load bars, factory rack bars etc...

How can I mount a roof rack on the camper shell or pickup truck bed cap without any raingutters?
|
Currently Yakima Racks provides a few different options for installing a roof rack on a truck camper shell, topper, canopy, cap, snugtop or whatever you call them where you're from...
1) The first option is to install the Yakima SideLoader Brackets, which act as artifical rain gutter mounts on the truck shell, cap, or camper shell. You then mount the Yakima 1A RainGutter Towers and cross bars to the Yakima SideLoader Brackets.
2) Another option is to use the Yakima Track system. The track application that you would need is Yakima 60" tracks. They can be cut down to any smaller length as well. These permanently mount to the truck shell, cap, or camper shell. You then mount the Yakima Control Towers, Yakima #1 landing Pads and pair of Yakima cross bars to the Yakima tracks. This solution offers the most flexibility because the rack system can be moved to any position along the tracks to perfectly suit whatever you are transporting.
3) The third option is to permanently install the Yakima #6 Landing Pads to the truck cap, canopy, topper or camper shell. With this option you will also be able to use the Yakima Control Towers and Yakima cross bars (each Yakima Control Tower mounts onto each #6 Landing Pad).
