Default was also told yakima racks not rated to carry kayak on Scion tC

yep I was told by my local car rack dealer here in California that I would not be able to carry a kayak on my Scion tC. I found out Thule Racks doesn't even make a roof rack for the Scion tC !!! I'm gonna keep looking around. I did find an interesting inflatable roof rack called the Malone HandiRack that might work...

I got some more details about the exact specifications of the Yakima Q Tower roof rack system on the Scion tC and it looks like the spread between the front and rear crossbars is 21 inches. I also found out that for surfboards and sailboards they have to be 8 ft or less in length. But the max weight capacity of the rack is 125 lbs. So I'm thinking this is very close to the 24 inch crossbar spread required for carrying a kayak. So maybe it would be ok to go for it providing the kayak is a shorter length and definitely use the Yakima bow and stern tie-down straps too!!! It's too bad the roof line of the Scion tC is so curved that the Yakima Q Stretch Kit is not usable on this car. The Q Stretch Kit is used on most short roof line cars to spread the distance out between the front and rear crossbars so you can carry long items like kayak, canoe etc.
