There are 2 good options for actually carrying your kayak on a kayak carrier, and that depends on whether you will be carrying multiple whitewater kayaks or not. If just one or two whitewater kayaks then the Yakima HullRaiser kayak rack is the way to go. you can eaily hoist each kayak onto the Yakima HullRaiser cradles and you have a very efficient and secure setup. You'll need a pair of Yakima HullRaiser kayak carriers for each kayak. If you are carrying 3-4 kayaks then the Yakima Kayak Stacker is the choice. You simply set each boat on its side and strap them to the upright posts and you can carry up to 4 kayaks stacked on their sides very easily. Just make sure to get an extra set of Yakima Straps. The Yakima Kayak Stacker comes with a pair of straps that you can use to strap down 2 kayaks on one side but you would need another pair to strap down the 2 boats that are on the other side of the Kayak Stacker posts.
Regardless of what kayak carrier you choose, you will still need a multi-purpose base rack system to serve as the platform that you will connect the kayak carriers to. The Yakima Q Towers roof rack system is the setup you will need for your 1993 Lexus SC400.
