carrying a kayak on a 2005 Dodge Ram 1500 pickup truck rack

My pickup truck is a 2005 Dodge Ram 1500 regular cab. I just bought a new 14 foot kayak and now want to get a 2005 Dodge Ram 1500 pickup truck rack system to carry the kayak. I don't actually need a kayak carrier as already own a Thule kayak rack that I can mount to the truck rack system. I am most interested in a hitch mounted extension bar rack (like the Yakima Racks DryDock or Thule 997 Goal Post) and a half roof rack setup (like the Thule 400XT Aero Half Pack or Yakama Racks Q Tower Half Pack) on the Dodge Ram 1500 cab of the pickup truck. Since I have a fiberglass cap on the pickup truck bed, this would then allow me total access to the truck bed without the need to take off the kayak. Does anyone know if this configuration would work?

hey there crockerman that sounds like an awesome solution. My suggestion is to go with the Thule 400XT Aero Half Pack and Thule 997 Goal Post combination. You'll then be able to mount your current Tule kayak rack to the load bars on this truck rack set up. The Thule 2100 Fit Kit is the Fit Kit you'll need for using the Thule 400XT Aero Half Pack on your 2005 Dodge Ram cab roof.
