Default thule 835pro hull a port kayak carriers make a great 2001 volkswagon gti kayak rack

The Thule 835Pro Hull-a-port kayak racks would make a very sweet 2001 Volkswagen GTI kayak rack setup, especially since the Thule 835Pro kayak cradles can fold down when not in use for a very sleek and aero look when you don't have the kayaks loaded on top.

You will need to first install the Thule 400XT Aero base rack system. This is a general multi-purpose system that includes two load bars that you will attach the Kayak carriers to. You'll want to go with the Thule 2047 Fit Kits which are made specifically for your 01 VW GTI. You can also go with the 50 inch load bars length. You will be able to use the shorter bars with the two sets of Thule 835Pro kayak racks because these kayak carriers take up minimal cross bar space compared to other kayak rack styles that transport the kayak flat (you would need the longer 58 inch load bars length if you went with two sets of kayak carriers that carry the kayaks laying flat.) The shorter 50 inch bars are a great advantage because you won't have any extra bar length sticking out over the sides which can be hazards on your head when you get in and out of the car and also doesn't give it as clean a look asthe 50 inch bars do.
