Default Yakima racks not manufacturing any new Yakima FatCat 6 ski racks due to lock issue

Just got a heads up from another Car Rack Resources user posting by racker that the Yakima FatCat 6 ski rack has been voluntarily suspended from manufacturing due to an issue with the locks not always locking properly if the ski rack is not latched in the correct position. They are doing a slight modification tothe design, it appears, and will continue manufacturing and offering the Fat Cat 6 for the 2007 / 2008 season. Just passing along the info. Please note that this is not a recall notice or anything by Yakima racks on the FatCat 6 ski rack, and there have been no posts from folks having problems with this currently. Cannot verify this one way or another as it doesn't look like there is any public info from Yakima Racks on the internet about this. Has anyone else had an issue with the locks on the Yakima Fatcat 6 and also is this a possible issue on the Yakima FatCat 4 ski carrier also?

Default update on the Yakima FatCat ski rack / snowboard rack issue

The Yakima FatCat ski rack design issue has been resolved and is totally reengineered for this season and is now shipping to retailers across the U.S.

Default fatcat 6 dont buy it!

hey every one i have had my fatcat 6 rack for a little over a year and today it failed, which you never want to have happen. i only had two snow boards in it and a set of skis, not even close to being overloaded. i was doing 75mph and then a loud noise and my stuff was all over the freeway! the top of both holders with the red button just flew off locked and all! it looks like the weak link was the opposite side of the red button (looks like a little pin is all that holds it together) my boards are ruined and the skis too! im lucky nobody was behind me when they failed(could have killed someone) anyways i would not let anybody i know use this fatcat system period just cause it aint worth it . i think they just dont have enough testing done on it since it is soo new. spread the word and dont let it happen to you.
