bikes and snowboards on a 2002 volkswagen gti car rack

I am trying to order a roof rack for my boyfriend for Christmas. He has a 2002 VW GTI. He mountain bikes and snowboards. I do not know much about roof racks. Could any experienced rack users please tell me what rack would be able to fit on the roof of his car that he could put his mountain bike on in the summer and also be able to put his snowboard on in the winter? Any help would be appreciated, thank you for your time.

For your boyfriend's VW GTI I would recommend Yakima's Q tower base rack system for starters. To carry his mountain bike in with style and ease I would suggest Yakima's Highroller bike carrier, this will allow him to carry bikes with or without disc brakes or with any size tire.
