Thule Racks 400XTR & 400XT questions for a 2007 Subaru Outback roof rack (sedan)
Hello car rack resources! I have a 2007 Subaru Outback that i'm driving and looking for a car rack system for it. I really like Thule Racks products and I know I need the following: Thule 400XT Aero Foot LB50 Load Bars 2155 Fit Kit or Thule 400XTR Rapid Aero RB47 Rapid Load Bars 2155 Fit Kit. What the heck is the difference between the two systems?
Thule 400XTR & 400XT roof rack systems are cosmetically different
I think I might be able to help you out here. The difference between the sleek 400XTR system and the classic 400XT system is just that, cosmetics and aesthetics. The classic 400XT uses the square load bars while the 400XTR uses the sleek elliptical shaped Rapid Aero bars. Thule Racks brought the 400XTR system over to the US from Europe where it has been used on european cars for a while now. They did this because so many people were requesting the look of this system for use on their newer model european cars here in America.
The only other difference is that for the Thule 400 XTR system some gear carriers require the use of a Thule Xadapt kit to mount the gear carrier onto the Rapid Aero bars. Just check out the info about any Thule gear carrier you are interested in and it should tell you if it needs a specific Xadapt kit or not when mounting to the Rapid Aero bars. All Thule gear carriers will mount directly to the classic square bars used on the regular 400XT model however.
