Default 2008 toyota matrix xr roof rack options

With the price of gas reaching excess of $3.00 per gallon, my wife and I are about to purchase a 2008 Toyota Matrix "XR". For 2008, Toyota has dropped the AWD option as well as the roof rack. Our options are basically Package #1, which does NOT include the side curtin airbags or the moon roof.

I'm looking for a roof rack that will permanently install two cross bars (front and rear) on the roof of the car. This will involve upright or tower sections that are of different heights because the front of the Matrix is higher than the rear. I am not opposed to removing the headliner and mounting plates to the inside of the roof area. The roof rack should be strong enough to carry a 28ft extention ladder (two 14ft
sections) for a distance of up to 50 miles each way at turnpike speeds.

I will consider either the Yakima or Thule models, but would prefer a less expensive brand name. Any help on this would be great!

Default i know 2 options for toyota matrix roof rack system to carry ladder

You have a couple of options;

option 1 would be to mount Thule's 400xt Complete roof rack system to your Toyota Matrix which will give you a 26.5" bar spread and is removeable when not in use.

Option 2 would be to go with Thule's 430 Tracker II Complete Roof Rack System with the TK14 which is a permanent mount so you would have to drill into the roof of your vehicle. The pro for this system is that can be mounted to suit your needs, ie; longer bar spread. The cons to this are you do have to drill through your roof which could hurt the resale value.

Both systems come with everything you need to install the rack on your car, but neither one addresses the fact that you car's roof is not level, but it should not be much of an issue. I hope this helps.
