Default is there no 2008 nissan rogue kayak rack available?

My 2008 Nissan Rogue AWD S-model does not have roof rails. Furthermore, Nissan cannot mount them. They tell me this vehicle model is not designed for rails. Yakima rails do not fit, even with their Q-clips (so they told me). Does any base system work for my 2008 Nissan Rogue? I am desperate to find a way to transport my kayak, and I am stuck with this vehicle. Thank you for any help anyone can give on this car rack forum.

Default permanent roof rack install or malone handirack inflatable roof rack your best option

Unfortunately, neither Yakima Racks nor Thule Racks currently has a base system for a 2008 Nissan Rogue without side rails. However, this doesn’t mean you are totally out of luck. Because your vehicle is so new, they may not have designed, tested, and approved a base system fit yet, but one very well may be coming, so one option would be to hang in there with your fingers crossed. Yakima and Thule both want to provide a fit for the 2008 Nissan Rogue, as they do every vehicle on the road, so most likely a fit will be coming soon.

Another option would be to install tracks, just like the ones for truck caps and camper shells, on your roof. Once those are installed, you can use Yakima Control Towers or Thule 430 Tracker feet to support your crossbars. Installing tracks requires drilling into your roof, which can open a can of worms (misdrilling, hitting a steel support, drilling into wires, etc) but if done correctly, they are a great option.

A final solution would be to use the innovative Malone HandiRack, which has inflatable “crossbars” with straps that run through the door wells to hold it on.

Default steelcore locking strap racks are also good option

The SteelCore Soft Rack / Travel Rack is also an excellent option for folks screwed because their car (with naked roof) is incompatible with Thule or Yakima. I think its a better option than malone handirack and its lockable (the integrated locking straps lock the kayak or whatever you are carrying, and also locks the strap system to the car too). SteelCore also makes the SteelCore Surf Carrier which works the same way as the Soft Rack / Travel Rack except that it mounts to crossbars including thule, yakima and factory bars (yep, not only does these crossbar pads attach to factory rack bars, but they also have integrated locking straps). worthwhile checking these options out too.
