That's a good one katana. I honestly haven't seen a hitch mount post system for carrying a canoe that'll also allow you to hook up a trailer at the same time. It's a fairly common system for hitch bike racks and you'd think the companies would offer this option for a hitch mount canoe rack set up too. If anyone does know of a product it would be great if you could enlighten us because I think a lot of people would be interested in this option.
I'm not sure what you were thinking about for carrying the canoe up front, but it looks like neither Yakima Racks nor Thule Racks offers a compatible cab roof rack set up such as the
Yakima Q Tower half pack truck rack or the
Thule 400XT half pack truck rack set up. They are probably still working on the Yakima Q Clips and Thule Fit Kits designs for the 2007 Chevy Silverado cab roof top.
You could go with the
Yakima 60" tracks, permanent tracks that easily install on truck caps and shells. Then you get the
Yakima Control Towers roof rack system with the set of Yakima #1 Landing Pads. The Pads snap into the tracks and then you just connect the Control Tower system to the Landing Pads. You can then slide the system all the way forward on the tracks, leaving a couple of feet between the front and rear crossbars for a stable platform for carrying the canoe but also having enough room to clear the front of the trailer that you'll be pulling. Then connect the
Yakima Gunwale Brackets canoe rack to the two crossbars and you're all set. Not a bad idea to get a pair of the Yakima Bow & Stern tie-down straps too so that the front and rear of the canoe is secured and totally stable during transit.
