replace the 2002 GMC Envoy factory rack with Thule 430 Tracker II base rack
I can't account for those folks over in the Yakima Racks camp, but Thule Racks actually recommends replacing the 2002 GMC Envoy factory rack with the Thule 430 Tracker II base rack system. This is a much stronger and universal base roof rack system that will allow any of the Thule Racks kayak carriers to safely and easily attach directly to the 430 Tracker II crossbars. You'll want to get the TK1 Tracker Kits for the 2002 Envoy. They connect right to the tracks on the Envoy rooftop that the factory rack is currently mounted to. The factory rack removes very easily, then you connect the TK1 kits to the tracks and then attach the Thule 430 Tracker II Feet to the TK1 kits. You need to choose a pair of Thule load bars as part of the Thule 430 Tracker II base rack system package as well. The Thule 50 inch load bars length is satisfactory for the 2002 GMC Envoy, however if you plan to carry a couple of kayaks then size up with the 58 inch length bars. All that's left is deciding which of Thule's kayak carriers best suits your personal needs, and you then mount the kayak rack to the load bars and you are ready to rack up and roll!
