Can I get two canoes on a 2003 Chevy Avalanche that has crossbars and a rear hitch

Wondering about the best way to carry two canoes on top of my 2003 Chevy Avalanche pickup truck that has the factory roof rack and a rear hitch. Would this be a good solution since the crossbars would be very far apart making a very stable system for long stuff like canoes. I'd probably use the rack to carry a ladder or lumber sometimes too. i did hear that there is no truck bed rack available for the Chevrolet Avalanche so I'm thinking the rear hitch mount and cab roof rack combination would be the way to go.

Yeah you're looking at a very solid canoe rack system for your 2003 Chevy Avalanche pickup if you go with a combination truck cab roof rack and hitch mount canoe rack set up. The Yakima Lowrider Half Pack roof rack on the cab and the Yakima Dry Dock hitch rack will give you a very nice foundation for two canoes. The Lowrider Half Pack includes a pair Lowrider towers that clamp onto the Avalanche roof rack side rails. A single cross bar then connects to the two Lowrider towers. Get the 78 inch crossbar length so you have enough room for two canoes. The Yakima Dry Dock mounts to your rear hitch receiver. You'll also need to get a single 78 inch cross bar to connect to the DryDock too. Now you can use some kind of canoe carrier that attaches to the crossbars. Yakima Racks makes the Gunwale Brackets canoe rack that mounts to the crossbars. Get two sets for carrying two canoes. These canoe racks totally eliminate any possibility that the canoes could slide around or shift laterally, a very common occurance when carrying a canoe just strapped directly to roof rack crossbars.
