Default yakima racks ez rider system is necessary for 2006 subaru baja roof rack kayak setup

hi there gabefreedom i think i can help you out...You will first need to install the Yakima Locking EZ Rider roof rack systemto your 2006 Subaru Baja side rails (the pair of bars that run parallel from front to back of your roof top on the driver side and passenger side). This will provide a safe and sturdy base rack system that is safely rated to handle the weight of your kayaks. Your current subaru baja roof rack crossbars cannot handle this weight. You will then attach the kayak carriers to the EZ Rider front and rear cross bars. The EZ Rider system includes 4 EZ Rider Towers that attach right to the side rails and also a pair of Yakima crossbars. The 58 inch crossbars are the recommended length for providing enough crossbar space to carry two kayaks at the same time. You can then attach any of Yakima Racks kayak racks to the EZ Rider crossbars and you are good to load and go!

Default Baja - truck rack in the back?

I had a similar problem, ref carrying long (~20') kayaks / surf skis on my Subaru Baja. Has anyone out there installed a rack in their Baja pick-up bed? A rack (or two?) in the back could also help take some of the weight of larger kayaks, since the factory racks cannnot handle heavy loads. I'd appreciate any tips on this question.

Default the yakima drydock or thule 997 goalpost are good option for very long items

Hey I 've actually been served up this question before, pilikia, good one. I personally don't know of a truckbed rack that is compatible with the Subaru Baja bed, aftermarket car and truck rack companies like Yakima Racks and Thule Racks do not have a truck rack system that'll install in the bed. However, as long as you have a 2" trailer hitch receiver installed on the Subaru Baja (very easy to find a local trailer hitch installer if your Subaru Baja does not already have a 2" hitch receiver) you can then connect either the Yakima DryDock or the Thule 997 GoalPost to the hitch receiver. This will provide a very safe platform to use along with the roof rack system on the front of the Baja.

If you get the Yakima DryDock just make sure you get a single crossbar to go with it. It does not come with a crossbar because Yakima Racks gives you the option to choice the crossbar length you want (either 58", 66" or 78") 58" is usually long enough to carry two kayaks flat and side by side, but very wide kayaks sometimes need the 66" length. The 78" crossbars will allow you to carry two canoes at the same time. The Thule 997 GoalPost comes with a 58" bar included so you do not get the option to choose the length like Yakima allows you to do.

Both the DryDock and the GoalPost adjust up and down so you can match the height of the crossbar with the crossbars on the front of your Subaru Baja.
