Default swing away hitch box on 2007 Jeep Commander not opening all the way?

I have a 2007 Jeep Commander and I want to put a hitch box on the rear hitch receiver for extra cargo. My dealer said there was an issue with the kind of swing away hitch cargo box that Thule Racks makes. They said it won't open all the way. Can anyone verify this who has this kind of hitch box. It's the Terrapin I think.

Default Thule 684 terrapin can't open fully on Jeep Commander / use 664 Transporter hitch box

Yeah 1amwestern I'm using the Thule 684 Terrapin swing-away hitch cargo box on my 2007 Jeep Commander. I can give you some feedback on this issue. It looks like the Jeep Commander rear hatch is too wide for taking advantage of the full swinging away of the 684 Terrapin to access the rear of the Jeep. When you have the Terrapin box swung all the way open, the right hand side of the Jeep Commander hatch ends up hitting the lip of the silver part of the Terrapin box preventing the box from opening fall the way. Also be aware that when the Thule 684 Terrapin is in the closed position (not in swung out position), you can’t open the Jeep Commander hatch, but the Terrapin was not hitting the vehicle in any other way. I'm just going to deal with the issue because I already have the box and it works great otherwise. I'd recommend going with the Thule 664 Transporter box though. You'll save money and it folds down instead of swinging away like the 684 does. So you'll be able to open the rear hatch of the Jeep Commander when using the 664 Transporter cargo box.
