what thule cargo roof box is best for 2001 vw jetta

I'm driving a 2001 VW Jetta VR6 and Im interested in the Atlantis 1800 or the Atlantis 1600 roof box. Something that will hold enough gear, but that doesnt look like I should have a mini van under the cargo box. As for the roof rack, when Im not using the cargo box, I might place a couple bikes on the roof rack. Seeking opinions on what would be the best roof box for mounting on the 2001 Volkswagen Jetta VR6...

The Thule 400XT Aero roof rack base system is required for your 2001 Volkswagon Jetta VR6. No matter what gear you plan to carry on your roof, you will need a multi-purpose roof rack base system. The Thule 400XT Aero system includes four 400XT Aero feet, four FitKit 2047 Clips (specific to your 2100 VW Jetta) and two square load bars (you will need to choose the 50" length square load bars for your roof top). You will attach the cargo box and bike racks to the front and rear load bars.

Both the Thule 687 Atlantis 1800 cargo box and the Thule 686 Atlantis 1600 cargo box will look very nice on the Jetta VR6. They attach to the Thule 400XT Aero roof rack load bars. I recommend going with the 686 Atlantis 1600 if you will not be transporting skis, it is shorter and will not extend over the roof like the 687 Atlantis 1800 will. If carrying skis then the longer 687 Atlantis 1800 model is recommended.

Finally you can then mount any of Thule's roof mount bike carriers to the Thule 400XT Aero base rack load bars.
