Default Toyota Prius Roof Box with Thule 603 Ascent 1500 Cargo Box

Toyota Prius roof box confirmed installation: If using just the Thule 603 Ascent roof box then the Thule recommended 58 inch load bars are the length to go with. But for this install on the Toyota Prius the cargo box is sharing crossbar space with a bike rack (the Thule 517 Peloton fork mount bike rack) so the 58 inch length bars are the choice for this set up. A very stock installation, using the Thule 400XT Aero base rack system and the Toyota Prius specific Thule 2142 Fit Kit Clips (for this 2007 Toyota Prius model). Then the Thule 603 Ascent box mounts to the bars and the Thule 517 Peloton bike rack next to it. The short length of this box is superb because it matches the contours and styling of the Prius and the rear hatch opens without any interference with the box. Besides fitting the roof line nicely the Thule 603 Ascent 1500 cargo box makes no contact with the radio antenna again the open rear hatch doesnt contact the box as it would with longer cargo box models. No wind fairing was used because Thule Racks recommends that no roof rack wind fairing be used when a cargo box is installed because the air should flow under the box instead of into the bottom which can cause an undesirable amount of lifting force.
