Default hard roof box or soft roof bag for clothing on my 1997 Honda Civic

Wondering if anyone has suggestions for what would be better, a hard shell cargo box or a soft sided roof bag for carrying clothing on my 1997 Honda Civic? I don't have any kind of car rack right now so wondering ifthat's a problem. How do I connect the roof box or cargo bag to the roof?

Default for clothing the thule 866 escape waterproof roof bag is the answer

You will need a multi-purpose base car rack system for your 97 Honda Civic so that you can attach either the cargo box or the roof bag to the base rack crossbars. The Thule 400XT Aero complete car rack base system is designed for your Honda Civic. The Thule 400XT system includes four 400XT Aero Feet, four FitKit 261 Clips (these clips are specific to your 97 Honda Civic) and two load bars. You will attach the luggage/cargo carrier to the 400XT Aero front and rear load bars. The 50 inch bars are the recommended length for the Civic roof top.

For carrying mostly clothing, its a toss up between a cargo box and a roof bag. But I'd lean towards the roof bag if I were you. Just make sure you get a waterproof roof bag. There is no better bag out there than the Thule 866 Escape II roof bag. It connects right to the 400XT load bars (also straps onto factory rack crossbars too). It has a 15 cubic foot cargo capicty too. That's as much as hard shell cargo boxes hold but at a fraction of the price. Also the bag removes super easily and you can fold itup and store away anywhere, try doing that with a cargo roof box.

My only recommendation for using a roof box to carry clothing would be the Thule 682 SideKick. It has a similar price to the 866 Escape bag and is waterproof. But still it doesn't offer as much carrying capacity or the storage convenience of the cargo bag option.
