can't decide on best 2007 Toyota Matrix car rack system to carry camping gear etc

I have a 2007 Toyota Matrix without any kind of car rack on it right now and I'm having a hard time deciding what I want to use for transporting clothes and sleeping bags, misc camping gear etc on the top of the Toyota Matrix roof top. Any suggestions out there from anyone with experience in this field?

I really think you would be happy using the Thule 400XT Aero complete roof rack base system and Thule 866 Escape II roof bag setup. No matter what gear you plan to carry on your roof, you will need a multi-purpose roof rack base system. I installed a ProRac roof rack system on my 2007 Matrix. It's a track-mounted system that requires permanent attachment, which I did myself. It comes with 2 oval profile crossbars that can hold up to 150 lbs. So far I have used it to haul 2 kayaks weighing a total of 85 lbs with no problem. Check it out at ProRac Systems Inc. and look at the Pro-File rack system. The aerodynamic crossbars are very quiet at highway speed. Note: the kit comes with self-tapping screws to mount the tracks to your roof. The standard tracks are 5 feet long, which I felt was too long for the Matrix, so I cut mine to 46 inches--the tracks are aluminum so you can cut them with a hacksaw.
