need to transport artwork on factory rack bars

I have kind of a unique question...I already have a stock roof rack on my car. I was looking for a container of some sort to attach to the roof rack to carry a painting 48 inches square...any suggestions? thanks

Unfortunately it looks like none of the cargo boxes on the market today are wide enough to handle a 48" item, nor are the cargo bags. The Yakima MegaWarrior gear basket is the only basket that might work. It is exactly 48 inches wide. Then you cover the painting to protect against the elements.

Another option is the Malone BigFoot canoe rack. This attaches to the factory bars and is really a universal carrier for lots of stuff besides a canoe. You could carry a ladder, plywood etc. It also could support your painting nicely and you would just need to cover the painting to protect it from the elements. The issue is whether your factory bars are wide enough.
