Default Looking for 2006 Toyota Tacoma bike rack for track system

Hey all I have a 2006 Toyota Tacoma with the truck bed track system and wondering if there is a better truck bed bike rack product out there besides the Toyota bike rack attachment. I've read a lot of places that this is a piece of junk and doesn't hold the bike tightly and they end up coming loose and shifting all around. I really want to use the Toyota Tacoma truck bed tracks instead of slapping something onto the bed rails or something. I like the Thule 501 Insta-Gater truck bike rack but not sure if I want to spend that kind of cash when I could hopefully use the tracks instead.

Default Rocky Mounts Clutch SD best bet for Toyota Tacoma track system

You gotta go with the Rocky Mounts Clutch SD bike rack. This is an awesome fork mount block that is made specifically for trucks with track systems, like your Toyota Tacoma, Toyota Tundra models, Nissan Frontier, Titan and probably some others I can't think of. The RockyMount Clutch SD installs really quickly onto the track and the skewer is locking so the bike stays secured. Not sure how many bikes you are trying to carry but you could probably attach three of the Clutch SD truck racks without the bike handlebars interfering with each other.

A heads up the stingah, if you do go with the RockyMount bike rack be sure to get the Clutch SD Rocky Mounts also makes a regular Clutch bike rack that bolts onto the truck bed but doesn't come with the hardware for track systems.

See the pic below for how it looks...

Default extra washer on RockyMounts Clutch SD eliminates movement

I have to totally agree with toyota maniac, the RockyMounts Clutch SD is hands down the best truckbed track system bike rack out there. I've been using it for about a year now and it still works like a champ! I have read about some people apparently having some problems with the fork block shifting around some and maybe even popping out if you are hitting a lot of really rough back roads, entirely possible if you searching out the best mountain bike trails like I do. Some folks have found a neat trick to fix this issue by using two simple little fender washers you, get at any hardware store, on each Clutch SD (you need two so you have one for each of the two bolts that attach the bike rack to the Clutch SD back piece that lives inside the tracks). The washers need to be size 3/8 center hole by 1 inch diameter. You then pull out the end plastic pieces inside the track rail system and insert the 1 inch washers between the normal RockyMounts Clutch SD back piece and the edge of the rail. You now have an ultra tight connection without any chance of play when ripping it up on jeep trails or wherever. I personally have never had this problem though. Here's a picture of what it looks like with the washers in place...

Default torx head bolts offer extra theft protection of RockyMount Clutch SD bike rack

the stinger, listen to toyota maniac and sticky mess...this really is the best track rail truck bike rack out there for Toyota and Nissan pickups with the track rail bed system. I have a couple of other good little tricks I've found work well with the Clutch SD, cheap too!!!

First is take a bungee cord and stretch it from end to end of the rear bed rail running it through the rear wheels of the bikes. This will eliminate any bouncing around of the bikes on rough and bumpy roads. The Clutch SD is super stiff laterally so you shouldn't have to worry about the bikes moving side to side or the fork blocks coming loose. If they do then sticky mess's little trick above looks like a quick fix.

The other thing to consider is to replace the regular hex bolts with torx head bolts. This will offer even better theft prevention because a thief is less likely to have a torx driver on hand than a hex wrench.

Default New plates available for Clutch SD

Hi everyone,

Just a quick note to let you know that we've started shipping new and improved plates in the Clutch SD. The new plates are rectangular, rather than oval. This shape change will make the installation and securing of the Clutch SD even easier.

Thanks for all the compliments!

Best of Rides,

Rocky Mounts
