Does thule 897xt hullavator rack for kayak attach to 2000 ford explorer roof rack

I just saw the Thule 897Xt Hullavator kayak rack mounted to someone's vehicle the other day. After speaking with him and checking out a quick demonstration by him on how slick it works, I think I just have to have one for myself. I have a bad back and this looks like a good solution to give it a break. I can't remember if the 897 Hullavater was attached to an aftermarket roof rack system or if he had it connected directly to his factory installed car rack system. I'm trying to figure out if the Hullavater will attach to my 2000 Ford Explorer roof rack crossbars or not???

Sorry but the thule 897xt hullavator rack for kayaks won't work on factory rack crossbars including your 2000 Ford Explorer roof rack bars. You'll need to first replace your factory rack with an aftermarket base rack system that has cross bars that are compatible with the 897xt hullavator. So my common sense approach would be the Thule 430R Rapid Tracker II roof rack. Make sure you get the TK1 Kits along with this set up. Thule Racks makes several different kinds of TK Tracker Kits that work on different vehicle factory rack designs. The TK1 will work on your 2000 Ford Explorer. It is very easy to make this roof rack switch. Your factory rack easily removels from the tracks on your roof top. You then just snap the TK1 Kits into these tracks and then connect the four 430R Rapid Tracker feet to the four TK1 KIts. You then connect the pair of Rapid Aero load bars to the 430R Tracker feet (the 43 inch Rapid Aero bars are the size you'll want for your car). Now you can attach the thule 897XT hullavater kayak rack directly to the Rapid Aero load bars. That should get you up and running. good luck!!!
