no go with chevy avalanche truckbed rack but yakima lowrider roof rack system is cool
I looked into both Thule truck racks and Yakima truck racks when I was setting up my 2006 Chevrolet Avalanche for carrying the same stuff (canoe and kayak). I'm guessing you're going to run into the same rejection I had with Thule and Yakima. It looks like none of their truck racks are compatible with the Chevy Avalanche truckbed. Not sure if you have the Chevy Avalanche roof rack installed or not, but if you do have a factory rack then you can use the Yakima Lowrider towers system on your cab roof at least. I went wit hthis option and I like it a lot. The Yakima Lowrider towers connect to the Avalanche side rails, the bars that run from front to back on the cab roof. You then mount the pair of Yakima crossbars to the four Lowrider towers. You'll need the 58" length bars for your cab roof and carrying a canoe and kayak using my configuration.
I got the Yakima Gunwale Brackets canoe rack which attaches to the crossbars. Then I mounted the Yakima HullRaiser kayak rack next to the Gunwale Brackets canoe carrier. The HullRaiser is killer because it carries the kayak in a semi-vertical way so you have enough room on the crossbars for both this kayak rack and the canoe rack at the same time. Not sure if this set up appeals to you but it's a great alternative to a truckbed rack system.
