Thule 554Xt is all you need for a Volvo surfboard rack
I agree, the Thule 554XT is a superb 2004 Volvo s40 surfboard rack. If the Volvo factory rack is made by Thule (very common as both are swedish companies) then all you'll need is the Thule 554XT Hang-Two. I'd say you don't have to have the pads because the 554XT already includes some padding on the cradles to protect your surfboards. The Thule Racks 554XT stays elevated off the factory rack cross bars so the surfboard won't come in contact. You can fit two surfboards on it. The cheapest surfboard lock solution is pretty much the Lashlock. Just because it doesn't cost much doesn't mean it isn't effective. The Lashlock is one of the best! No need for any keys either.
