TRAILER HITCH MOUNT BIKE RACK
For carrying your racing road bikes on your 2001 Nissan XTerra trailer hitch I definitely recommend the
Yakima Doubledown 4 bike hitch rack. This is a superb fold down hitch bike rack. Transports up to 4 bikes and offers excellent stability. I realize that you only intend to carry 2 bikes but the option for more bikes is very nice, plus the 4 bike model allows you to use the optional ski/snowboard carrier accessory too (see below). The
Yakima DoubleDown 2 bike hitch rack model is not compatible with the ski carrier accessory.The included Yakima SwitchBlade cradles also ensure the bikes won't swing into each other or the back of your vehicle. Cradles are also very snug with plenty of padding etc so they will not impact your road bike racing frames. I also recommend the optional
Yakima DeadLock security system to simultaneously lock the hitch rack to the trailer hitch on your Nissan XTerra and the the bikes to rack itself. This rack will also work on both 2" and 1.25" hitches right out of the box, no adapters needed.

For transporting skis and/or snowboards the
Yakima Hitchski snowboard-ski rack is an excellent attachment for the Yakima DoubleDown 4 bike hitch rack, allowing you to conveniently carry your skis and/or snowboards on the hitch rack during the winter. Holds up to 6 pairs of skis or 4 snowboards and you can mix & match skis and snowboards. Locks included for securing your skis/snowboards inside the carrier. Again, the Yakima HitchSki snowboard & ski rack is not compatible with the Yakima 2 bike hitch rack version however.
