my van rack is a thule 387 raingutter rack
I use the Thule 387 High RainGutter roof rack on my Ford E150 van. It mounts right to the raingutters no problem. Just make sure you get the 65 inch length cross bars otherwise the bars wont be long enough to reach across the van roof top.
I then use the Thule 883 Glide & set kayak rack for carrying my sea kayak. And for carrying a ladder, lumber etc I use the Thule 503 Load Stops and a pair of Thule rack straps.
I love this set up and sure it would serve you well too.
