I'm happy with the surfoboard locking mechanism in it. Obviously I don't feel like it's totally foolproof (what lock really is) but I like it as a theft deterrent when I hit the coffee shop along the way and stuff. I know a few riders that have the Thule surfboard rack . i never asked them specifically about it, but from what I've seen it is easy to load up surfboards and looks like a good solution for factory racks. So if it isnt going to totally stress you out to have a non locking surfborad rack I'd say save the $$$ and go wit hthe Thule one instead...
